Medan Higgs adalah medan yang memberikan suatu zat massa. Namun, tidak semua. Massa suatu benda bisa didapati melalui energi yang dimilikinya serta medan Higgs.

2, menjelaskan bahwa energi dan massa mempunyai hubungan satu sama lain. Dengan kata lain, massa adalah jumlah energi. Suatu benda bergerak akan memiliki lebih banyak massa daripada benda yang tidak bergerak. Ini dikarenakan benda bergerak memiliki lebih banyak energi (kinetik) daripada yang diam.
